Sandcastle

So focused in the grains of glass an stone
that litter all the shore in dazzling beads,
you notice possibilities are shown:
a wiling pair of hands are all they need.
So you- a child- you scurry on the beach
to build the turrets, moats, and stately walls,
you know the castle you are trying to reach...
But naively you don't know that it will fall.
You crown your palace, zenith of the land,
and see it as immutable, sublime.
You really think it's always going to stand-
Immortal tribute to the sands of time.

But nature has another thing in mind,
my poor young child, so little you did know...
I guess it's good that early you should find
that everything you do will have to go!
A ruthless wave, it spots the castle art
and sweeps it back into a nameless pile.
Your castle didn't have an important part
in the script of life. I'm sorry, little child.
And now your salt is mingling with the sea.
tiny drops inside an endless blue,
Wait... Perfect! That is how I'll make you see,
why your castle didn't last and fell so soon.

You see, the things you do may seem so huge,
but take a backwards telescope to see what I mean-
Those things that matter just so much to you
are just tiny tears in the ocean of the grand scheme.
Of course we still do things, we feel we must,
but our castles always crumble back to dust.
